Southern Flying Squirrel

  • One of three ‘flying’ squirrel species.

  • They do not actually fly, but can glide usually between 6-9 meters due to a loose fold of skin which extends from the front wrists to the rear ankles. They use their tails to steer.

  • They have white fur on their underbelly.

  • They are nocturnal.

  • Found in deciduous and mixed forests.

  • They breed twice a year, early Spring and Summer.
